According to my pastor, I have to remind myself that I am a young LADY. Hahaha...That's because I told him that I am a long time off from being a - yeah, you guessed right, a LADY. Let me see what the dictionary says about a lady. Hmm..
The M-W online dictionary says that a lady is,
a: a woman of superior social position
b: a woman of refinement and gentle
Okay, so I picked out the best or rather the more suitable explanation I was looking for. Looks like I will be neither, not for a long long time? I have talked about identity issues before, but erm, do I need to do it again?
As a female (ahem, Eric Tan, do not laugh!! :P), I know that I'm not that FAR OFF being a lady. I am, but I just do not want to show it? LOL. I guess I do show it, but I do it on a different term - the Grace style, not the 'what people/men expect' style. As my close male friends would agree with me, I have come a long way in the 'showing' department, and they would agree with you too, that I have always been one. Just not the common package. :) Well, if I am not one, then there will not be any guys coming on to me!! And fancy being proposed in Egypt!! :P
I still have male and female friends alike who expect me to change to a gentle kind of a LADY, and who blatantly make their expectations known, but this young lady here has consistently laughed them off, because by asking me to do just that shows how close they are to me. Or how little they know me. Sometimes I do get offended, but I forgive. I need to, to keep my ladylikeness. =)
Think about it this way, if God has made me a girl, then He wouldn't have done anything wrong making me this way. Perhaps we need to lose that common perception about how a girl should carry herself, and let her express the lady in her the way God has made her, and in this respect, actually for males too. Whether softer or tougher for both genders, I definitely believe God has decided which gender group we belong to, and in doing that, He wouldn't have made any mistakes. Rightly so, since He's made us in His image. =)
And to reaffirm my MSN and Gmail Talk tags, I am a young LADY, and I know so. Just like everyone else, I am learning how a girl should be treated, and perhaps help my brothers to appreciate ladies the way it was meant to, and vice versa. =)
I should be a counsellor. :P
daydreaming,
gracey
P/S: I was just reminded by We-Ki that I will never be ladylike. LOL. He also said that he can only imagine me in my wedding jeans, not dress. Hahaha...Very funny We-Ki. I DO wear skirts and dresses, and I look F-A-B-U-L-O-S-O by the way, Mr Chua.
It'd not be Grace to suddenly be gentle and soft-spoken, and I dread to think of that. It somehow sorta is related to the image of me speaking with an accent? And We-Ki is going to start laughing NOW. :P ;)

Hmm...some time, i do want a not so gentle person to be gentle. Later on in my life, i figured that it was better to be who u really are. Everyone is unique in their own ways :)
