I just got back from a farewell gathering for my friend, old friend. Well, although he's much older (hehehe), he's really a great friend. Tex is off to Sydney with his family, and I'm glad for him.
I have a collection of Beanie Babies after my full name. Tex set out to complete my name many years ago, when I was still in high school. He finally found my Wern (a worm) and gave it to me last year. Michelle (his now wife, then girlfriend), thought that he was buying the Babies for a little girl - and it turned out that the girl was not that little. Heh! It was me, around 15 - 17 years of age.
Tex's house was where we used to hang out a lot. When I first came to KL, I enjoyed all our gatherings there, because I felt at home in his home. It's so easy to get a Beanie Baby off his shelf into your own collection. Just say, "So cute!!" and squeak a little, and it would be in your hands following you home, in 5 minutes. That's my friend Tex. His cabinet was full of these Babies, and I wouldn't be surprised if he actually gave them all away.
Tex got married a couple of years ago, and I wondered why he didn't invite me. He, on the other hand, wondered why I didn't come celebrate with him his Big Day. Turned out that my brother forgot that Tex actually invited me, and the invitation card was with him. That's my brother. =)
His little baby girl is now a few months old, baby Ashley Joan Ting. He has a collection of cows in his house now. Heh. Changed focus. And I finally returned his books after keeping them for 3 years? I never got to wrap his book collection for him - I still owe you Tex. ;)
Wishing you all the best in Sydney. I remember your heart and desire to serve the Lord. Don't ever chuck them away. I trust there will come a time when you can do that with much freedom - finally! Oh, and please continue making those balloons and practising miming in Sydney. It'd be fun to see you on stage performing again, and maybe this time, with your little family. Will miss you la Tex!! Write to us often, we'd love to hear from you. Thank you for all those quiet investments you put into my life - I'll never forget them. Bon voyage!
